1. Benefits of the Emile Boutmy Scholarship
Qualifying students can access funding from the Emile Boutmy Scholarship through the following types of support:
Undergraduate:
This scholarship is available to students entering their first year of study at Sciences Po.
For undergraduate students, the scholarship may be awarded in several ways:
€7,300 per year toward tuition fees for the entire three-year undergraduate program, plus an additional €5,000 per year to assist with living costs.
€7,300 per year toward tuition fees throughout the three-year undergraduate program.
€5,000 per year toward tuition fees for all three years.
€3,000 per year toward tuition fees for all three years.
In exceptional cases, an award of €19,000 may be granted to cover the full three years of undergraduate study. The specific scholarship amount is decided by the respective admission juries.
Students who do not successfully complete their academic year will lose the scholarship. The award will also be withdrawn if a recipient chooses to postpone their admission.
During the third year abroad, undergraduate scholarship recipients will continue to receive their tuition support and, where applicable, the additional living-cost grant.
Master’s:
The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is intended for students beginning their first year of study at Sciences Po.
For Master’s students, the scholarship is offered in two forms:
€10,000 per year toward tuition fees for the two-year Master’s program.
€5,000 per year toward tuition fees for the two-year Master’s program.
As with the undergraduate scholarship, students who do not successfully complete their academic year will lose the award. The scholarship is also forfeited if the recipient decides to defer admission.

2. Eligibility Criteria for Emile Boutmy Scholarship
Applicants must meet the program’s eligibility requirements to be considered for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship:

Eligible Countries: All countries worldwide
Applicants Who Are Not Eligible:
- The following categories of applicants cannot receive the scholarship:
- Swiss and Norwegian applicants, as they may be eligible for CROUS scholarships.
- Applicants who hold dual citizenship, including citizenship of an EU country.
- Quebec applicants for Master’s programs, as they may qualify for sliding-scale tuition fees similar to European applicants. Quebec applicants for Bachelor’s programs remain eligible.
Master’s dual-degree applicants, except those applying to the following eligible programs:
- Sciences Po/Columbia University dual degree in Journalism.
- Sciences Po/Fudan University dual degree in Europe-Asia in Global Affairs, limited to applicants with Chinese nationality.
- Sciences Po/Peking University dual degree, also limited to applicants with Chinese nationality.
Students applying to PhD thesis programs:
- Applicants to one-year Master’s programs.
- Applicants to Bachelor’s dual-degree programs, unless covered by a specific agreement.
- Exchange students.
- Applicants using the French graduate admission procedure.
- Applicants cannot apply for the CSC and Emile Boutmy joint scholarship together with the Emile Boutmy Simple Scholarship.
The Emile Boutmy Scholarship generally cannot be combined with other scholarships, including the Eiffel Scholarship, AEFE Scholarship, or BGF, unless the scholarship jury authorizes an exception.
Scholarship decisions are made according to academic merit and the type of candidate the program is seeking. Social circumstances are also considered during the selection process.
The scholarship is not awarded automatically. Applicants must specifically state in their online Bachelor’s or Master’s application that they wish to be considered for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship.

3.1. Academic documents

3.2. Valid passport, Birth certificate & NIC
The passport of the applicant must contain at least one full blank page on both sides.
The passport must be valid at the time of visa application and on arrival to France.
A birth certificate or national ID card is also important to attach.
3.3. English Proficiency proof (IELTS/TOEFL) for Eiffel scholarship

Generally speaking, If the student has IELTS with 6.5 overall and 6.0 in each, they are eligible for most French universities.

3.4. Recommendation letters / Letters of References
The applicants must provide 2-3 letters of recommendation from the previous university, (Depending upon courses).
It is advised to provide a letter of recommendation from the HOD (Head of the department or Relevant course head) who should be a PhD.
The referees need to write their contact details (Email, phone number) at the end of the letter.
The letter must include an official letterhead, signature, and official stamp and must be of the current date.
Ask your Referees to write about your academic achievements & discuss their confidence in you that you are fully compatible with the project or course you wish to pursue.
The referees must also mention how long they know the applicant & when was the last time they came in contact with the applicant.
3.5. Statement of purpose or Letter of Motivation
Remember, SOP or LOM can be asked during university admission.
Technically SOP or LOM are the same things.

The research proposal is mostly required for postdocs or Ph.D. students. (Depend upon the courses)
It asks you to write about the research project you agree upon completing with the assigned academic advisor.
Your research proposal should be a brief description of your research goals and objectives, the methods with which you wish to process that research, the outcomes you desire, the timeline and budget you have estimated, and the area of study you wish upon exploring.
It shall be a brief document yet explain the entire vision to the reader so that those analyzing your application could know of your objectives and grant you the scholarship if they match the program’s criteria and eligibility.
Taking help from an external party is strictly prohibited and violation in this regard could lead to your disqualification no matter how incredible your proposal is.

2. Applicants may be required to submit proof of income and documents describing their family circumstances. These may include tax returns for both parents, salary slips, divorce documentation, unemployment benefit records, alimony or child-support documents, retirement or pension records, or a death certificate, where relevant.
3. Where required, applicants should also submit their language test results before the scholarship application deadline.
4. The Admissions Department is responsible for awarding the Emile Boutmy Scholarships. However, the scholarship request will only be considered if the applicant is admitted to one of the eligible Sciences Po programs.
5. Deadlines for Emile Boutmy Scholarship
Applicants should follow the scholarship deadline that applies to their chosen degree level.
Undergraduate Deadline:
The official deadline for international undergraduate students applying for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship 2027 is:

Although undergraduate admission applications may remain open after this date, students who apply after the scholarship deadline will no longer be eligible for consideration for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship.
Master’s Deadlines:
According to Sciences Po, the scholarship deadlines for Master’s applicants are:
First committee: 19 October 2026
Second committee: 30 November 2026
The general deadline for international Master’s admission is later, but applicants who wish to be considered for the scholarship must submit their applications by the earlier scholarship deadlines.
